Self-appointed monitors of "hate"
Wish I'd said that!
[Reprinted from Issues & Views January 14, 2002]
We've all heard in recent years about the new multitude of groups that monitor 'hate crimes.' You now have everything from the Southern Poverty Law Center, whose scare tactics net Morris Dees a handsome living, right down to obscure little groups that no one outside of their dozen or so supporters ever heard of. Yet they are all out there, supposedly monitoring the nefarious activities of 'right-wing hate groups.' . . . .
Their basic criteria for what constitutes a hate group is any group that says or does something they disagree with. You can be an anti-abortionist, a Southern patriot, or a homeschooler who has seceded from the government brain laundries and been publicly critical of them. All such activities constitute 'hate' according to these folks. If you are anywhere to the right of Ho Chi Minh or Fidel Castro you are automatically a hatemonger because you lack Marxist 'compassion' for the poor and downtrodden of the world.
