Inventing enemies to force an agenda
An unpopular truth
[Reprinted from Issues & Views August 12, 2002]
One of the ongoing quests of the homosexual lobby is to get the term "sexual orientation" included in state and local anti-discrimination law codes. Following in the tracks of the country's other "protected" groups, such as blacks and women, homosexuals recognize the benefit of being able to charge any opponent of their aggressive "gay" promotions, especially in the schools, with "discrimination," or even with engaging in a "hate crime."
We learn from Linda Harvey of Mission America, in her group's newsletter, Choice-4-Truth (May-July 2002), that a school board in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, fending off pressure from the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN), refused to add "sexual orientation" to its existing discrimination policy. And in West Virginia, the House Judiciary Committee postponed indefinitely consideration of a House Bill that would have added the same provision to the state's law on "hate crimes."
Across the country, homosexual activists vigorously push to have school curricula, films and other media produced for children to sympathetically depict "gay" themes. Promoted as vehicles to teach youngsters "tolerance," books, videos and play productions generally turn out to be glorifications of same-sex couplings. Crusades for the "bisexual" and "transgendered" are now also part of the propaganda package delivered on a regular basis at hundreds of schools.
Homosexual advocacy groups have added to their justification of pro-homosexual propaganda the need to diminish harassment against homosexual students. The National Education Association (NEA), one of the liveliest promoters of all things homosexual, claims that there exists "widespread violence" against young homosexuals, although no proof can be shown for such a claim. Writes Harvey, "But the evidence of some massive problem just isn't there. Most schools do a great job of resolving physical fights between kids. It's still just dawning on us American parents that what the NEA and the gay lobby really mean by 'harassment' is all disapproval of homosexuality. All objections, even polite ones, must be silenced or changed."
With the formation of "gay" clubs at school, youngsters who are under pressure to join in deviant or rebellious behavior, are induced to take the plunge into homosexual experimentation. In Georgia, the Senate passed a bill that would require students to get parental approval before joining such a club. In Choice-4-Truth, a parent, Hans Zeiger, writes about a film, Journey To a Hate Free Millennium, to which public school children in his town were held hostage. Depressing and pessimistic, the film recounts the murder stories of Matthew Shepard (homosexual), James Byrd (black man) and the Columbine High school killers.
Viewers of the film are inundated with messages that magnify the 0.06% of crimes committed against minorities--whites against coloreds and heterosexuals against homosexuals--but never see reference to the very real statistics of crimes committed by minorities. One gets the impression that homosexuals are in constant danger of lurking enemies bent on doing them harm--hence the need for ardent propaganda that hypes the goodness and innocence of "gays."
Failing to adhere to the homosexual lobby's call for "inclusiveness" can be costly. When the Boy Scouts of America established a policy prohibiting avowed homosexuals from positions of leadership, a policy that was later affirmed by a Supreme Court decision (June 2000), the lobby went into action. Through their influence in foundations and other funding sources, and their notorious ability to intimidate, homosexual activists are succeeding in discrediting the Boy Scouts, while working to de-fund the organization's activities.
The United Way has long been an important source of financial support for the Scouts. However, Grassfire.net, a research group, has gathered information on dozens of United Way branches and discovered that several have adopted policies that either completely de-fund or limit the amount of money directed to the Boy Scouts.
In Arizona, the city of Tucson, under pressure from activists, pressured the United Way to stop funding the Boy Scouts. The University of Arizona has ordered all employees to stop giving to the Scouts.
In San Francisco, gifts must be designated specifically for the Scouts, since contributions will not be sent from discretionary funds, as in the case of other charities. This is true also in Santa Barbara and Ventura County. In Connecticut, several counties have either de-funded the Scouts, or are in the process of de-funding. Grassfire.net claims that its field reports have confirmed altered policies towards the Boy Scouts in 64 United Way agencies throughout the United States. The common reason given for most changes in policy is: "Do not allocate funds to any organization that discriminates."
A staff member at a Fort Lauderdale United Way claimed that, by de-funding the Scouts, "we are protecting children from discrimination." Given the current American mentality, the "sin" of discrimination supersedes all others, including the exposure of impressionable, young children to zealots who make it clear that they are determined to force acceptance of their agenda.
At the moment, the Boy Scout organization still enjoys funding from major sources and its ongoing operation is not in jeopardy. If you wish more information on how to help, visit: Boy Scouts of America and Grassfire.net.
